Mrs. Pinkelmeyer, Silliest Warmest Know-It-All, and her lovable sidekick Moopus McGlinden inspire self-esteem in children through their love warmth and silliness.

Moopus McGlinden and Singin With Susan will be performing along with Santa at a Breakfast with Santa this Saturday December 10 at 8:30 am. They will be at the Town Center mall in Boca Raton, FL. Moopus is loved by all that know him and he warms the hearts of children and families.

Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden were created in a quick thinking move by Jennifer Kelman while she was taking care of her nephew while his parents were away. Henry was suffering terribly from separation anxiety and Kelman could not do anything to calm his anxieties until from out of her imagination sprung Mrs. Pinkelmeyer.

Kelman picked up the telephone and pretended to call the lovely fictitious character of Mrs. Pinkelmeyer. “Of course she had a British accent, as I did not think my NY accent would be funny to my nephew,” Kelman says. She answered the phone in her usual happy fashion and began to make Henry giggle and laugh with tales of Moopus’ adventures. Henry laughed so hard that he forgot how much he missed his parents. Mrs. Pinkelmeyer came to the rescue that cold winter evening many years ago and since then has been delighting families all over the country.

Kelman has now brought these characters to life and created a complete product line including plush dolls, music and a book series based on the adventures of Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden.

Both characters have also been developed into mascot costumes and can be seen around town doing events such as this one at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton. “They dance with the kids and give hugs and it is a great feeling. And now to be paired with Santa, I couldn’t be more pleased,” says Kelman.

This won’t be the only event, so stay tuned for more Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden happenings by visiting with us.

There has been a tremendous amount of media coverage on bullying, but sadly this has not done much to stop the bullying. We all know that this is an enormous crisis and one that has far reaching and long-term impacts not just for the victim but the bully as well. It is happening every day in classrooms all across the country, through text messages, on social media sites and on playgrounds. This is not a crime that goes unnoticed by others, but it is a crime where the bystanders do nothing to stop the bullying.

In 85 percent of bullying cases, no intervention is taking place among teachers, school administrators or other kids who are witnesses to the crime. This is a devastating statistic as it truly highlights the severity of the problem and the lack of support to stop the bullying. The kids who are being bullied need help and support and they often feel so alone and isolated that they feel that their only option is suicide and we have seen a tremendous increase in teen suicide also referred to as bullycide.

It is time to take a stand and stand up to stop the bullying. It is not okay to be a witness and do nothing. As friends, teachers, parents, administrators or anyone who may be a witness, there is no other option than to intervene to stop the bullying.

It is clear that often the child victim of bullying desperately wants to keep it quiet and not let others know that it is happening. This occurs for several reasons. The child often feels that if they tell someone then there will be an increase in the bullying. These kids also do not want to tell their parents fearing repercussions from the other kids. Teachers and administrators often feel at a loss about what to do and how to handle the situation. More training for schools needs to occur to stop the bullying. Bullying frequently happens while not under the watchful eye of a teacher or administrator, making it more difficult to witness the behavior. A better presence in schools especially in hallways, playgrounds and the cafeteria by administrators and teachers may be one way to stop the bullying. As soon as as incident occurs, it can be dealt with.

We need to stop minimizing the bullying behavior by chalking it up to normal childhood behavior. It is not normal for a child to harass another either verbally or physically on a continuous basis. These bullies are often exhibiting a symptom of something larger. Their home life may be chaotic and disruptive, they may be witnesses to violent behavior at home and they may also be bullied by others. They are trying to exert whatever power they can to overcome their own situation. One of the best ways to stop the bullying is to intervene and not be a silent bystander. Intervention not only helps the victim but it also helps the child bully. Both are at risk and are suffering and both need help to deal with their unique situation to stop the bullying.

It is not uncommon for a person to witness something awful and feel unable to act or believe that someone else will step in to stop the bullying. It is time to be the one to act, to step in, to prevent further damage to both individuals and to stop the bullying. It will never end if the attitude of ‘that’s not my child, so why should I step’ in continues. It is important to begin imagining that it is your child so that you can step in and not be a silent bystander.

Kids in school fear telling on another student as they then may become a victim of the bully. They remain quiet instead, but they too are left feeling alone and isolated feeling powerless to stop the bullying. Programs need to be put in place where kids can come and report and incident to a teacher or administrator without fear of repercussion. Implementing these things can begin to stop the bullying. Simple expulsion may also not be enough for the bully as they often wait for school to end to continue their torture. Text messages and social media sites have become known as cyber-bullying and it becomes a chronic issue for the victim. Not only are they faced with their bully or bullies at school, but there is little respite when they are off school grounds as it continues through cyber bullying.

Parents need to monitor what their children are doing online and if done correctly without too much intrusion, then we can all be one step closer to stop the bullying. If kids know that their parents, friends, teachers administrators are not going to be silent witnesses, but rather take a stand to end this crisis, we might begin to see a decrease in this behavior. The more bystanders remain silent, the more the cycle will continue. Make the commitment to end this terrible crisis and help both the victim and the bully. With grit and determination we can stop the bullying.

Jennifer Kelman is a social worker, entrepreneur, author and certified professional coach. As the creator of Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden, who inspire self-esteem in children, Jennifer herself and through her creative characters work hard to teach about bullying in an effort to stop the bullying.

The first year with twins can go by quickly mostly because parents are completely exhausted and walk around in a fog due to lack of sleep. Routines for themselves are on the back burner in order to care for the infants. During these times, family and friends are around to help and this reduces some of the heavy load while trying to adjust to a whole new way of being. As the second year of the twin’s lives approaches the outside help dissipates somewhat and parents are left to their own devices to make it through. The idea of taking a long, hot shower becomes increasingly enticing, yet still out of reach. It is just not possible to take those few minutes while the twins are now climbing on everything in sight. It is time to set up a game-plan in order to survive the terrible twos.

Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and her plush, singing doll have been awarded the prestigious and highly sought after award by Dr. Toy for Best Vacation Children’s Products for Summer 2011 which is designed to assist children to play and learn at home and while on vacation.

Mrs. Pinkelmeyer Plush, Singing Doll has won the coveted Dr. Toy award. Dr. Toy’s Best Vacation Children’s Products Awards were developed by noted child development authority, Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D. (a.k.a. Dr. Toy), as a service to consumers who desire to purchase safe, affordable, educationally-oriented, and stimulating toys and play products for children for vacation time at home or on the road.

“As a childhood specialist for 40 years,” says Dr. Toy, “I have seen the continuous, essential need for more year-round resources for consumers to identify and choose the most appropriate products for all children.”

Dr. Toy reports that in the years the innovative on-line magazine, Dr. Toy’s Guide, has been available, “thousands of visitors daily from around the world have accessed its information.” It was the first web site to evaluate toys and children’s products. The report is being released, according to Dr. Toy, to “encourage parents and teachers to focus on the value of play during the summer as essential to the overall learning process.”

Dr. Toy’s Best Vacation Children’s Products are carefully chosen, using extensive criteria she has developed over many years, from among hundreds she has reviewed at toy fairs, in catalogs, and through many other sources. The criteria she uses includes: safety, age-appropriateness, design, durability, lasting play value, cultural and ethnic diversity, good transition from home to school, educational value, learning skills, creativity, improvement in the understanding of the community and the world, good value for price, and, naturally, fun.

“It is such a great honor to be given this award by Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D, a true leader and innovator in the toy industry, says Jennifer Kelman creator of the indelible Mrs. Pinkelmeyer.

Dr. Auerbach, a long-time resident of San Francisco, originally from New York City, lived in Washington, DC, while working for the Department of Education where she approved the first proposal for “Sesame Street” and established the first day care center for children of federal employees. In San Francisco, she established the San Francisco International Toy Museum, the world’s first “hands-on” toy museum visited by over 50,000 children. She is the author of 15 books (including The Toy Chest, Toys for a Lifetime, The Whole Child, and Choosing Child Care) and hundreds of articles on toys and play, and is the only Ph.D. in Child Development evaluating toys and children’s products with extensive training, background, and over 40 years of experience evaluating, writing and speaking about toys and children’s products. Dr. Auerbach is trained in child development, education, child psychology and special education. She is an educator, consultant, parent, and playful grandparent.

About Mrs. Pinkelmeyer
Entrepreneur and Author Jennifer Kelman, created Mrs. Pinkelmeyer™, Silliest, Warmest Know-It-All™, from Poppingham, England and her furry brown dog, Moopus McGlinden™. Jennifer, who has a Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University, was inspired to create Mrs. Pinkelmeyer after caring for her nephew when his parents were away. Little Henry was suffering from separation anxiety and in a quick thinking move Ms. Kelman imagined the playful and lovable Mrs. Pinkelmeyer who came to the rescue. Ms. Kelman has created a line of products that includes dolls, music, temporary tattoos and a children’s book series based on Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and Moopus McGlinden. As an unintended consequence, Mrs. Pinkelmeyer is also touching the lives of seniors and those with special needs. Mrs. Pinkelmeyer warms the hearts of all that know her.

This brings me to my latest topic. As I sit here and write to you I am poised to give you many reasons and excuses why it has been so long that I have been in touch. But, I don’t want to do that. I want to be up front and just offer an apology.

In today’s busy world we can all get caught up in our lives that we may forget to reach out to those that are important to us. I am reaching out to you to let you know that you are important to Moopus and me and we are thrilled that you visit with us here.

I am enjoying a relaxing morning watching the French Open (Moopus and I love tennis) and returning phone calls that are long overdue. Reaching and and connecting makes me feel wonderful. Please reach out to those that you care about and let them know how you feel.

Enjoy a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

With love and care,

Ooooohhhh Dear. What a wonderful time Moopus and I had when we met with Santa Claus Via Skype. Now, hush hush my little dearies, I know what you are thinking….how could I be using Skype? I must admit I was a bit worried at first and a bit modest, but that lovely Santa Claus reassured me and told me I looked beautiful. He really knows how to flatter. Not only did I Skype with Santa but he also made our conversation into a podcast that is available on his website. Yes, yes I know…Santa even has his own website now. For us old fashioned folks, we have had to do what is necessary to keep up with our younger friends.
Anyway, enough of my silliness because Santa and I, along with my creator, Jennifer Kelman, tackled a very serious issue that is happening across the world, and that is the issue of bullying.
Jennifer and Santa took an in depth look at the problem and identified warning signs and what to do if we are seeing or experiencing bullying. Our goal is to bring this issue to the forefront of all of our minds and help all children. Bullies and their victims both need a safe place to talk about the issue. Parents, school administrators, and peers, keep the dialogue going and intervene before it is too late.
Please visit Santa’s website to hear the podcast and look around. Also check out his Hot Toys section as Moopus and I get a wonderful mention. Of course we are the Hot Toy, what took Santa so long to jump on board?!

Every now and then I am moved to be the Know-It-All that I am and try to inspire others. Today, as Moopus lay curled up in his bed unable to move because of the nip in the air, I thought about inspiration and what gets us inspired each day.

I am fulfilled and inspired each and every day. Are you? Whatever the task is at hand, I do it with gusto and determination. I enjoy all of it because that is all we have….moments in time that are gone with the blink of an eye. Precious moments that can not be given back or re-done, so I implore you to enjoy all of them. Even the ones that may feel like drudgery. Take a new perspective and feel inspired about the task, event or job and do it with gusto!

Define and design your life it as you would like it to be. Go and grab it and make it all that you want! Tomorrow isn’t promised to any of us, so go get inspired, inspire others, give to others and enjoy each moment! Is there really any other option?!

With love and care,

I am an idea, kind of like a virus. An idea of who and what you need me to be.

Who is Mrs. Pinkelmeyer and what is “Pinkelmeyer Fever?” The most obvious answer is that I am the Silliest, Warmest Know-It-All(TM),with my lovable side-kick Moopus McGlinden(TM). But I am more than that. I am an idea, kind of like a virus. An idea of who and what you need me to be. As many of you already know, I was developed years ago out of sheer desperation and need when a young boy was missing his parents. The idea came to be when a young woman, so desperate to comfort her Nephew, let her imagination run wild and out came me , a lovely lady providing love and comfort to a young woman and her nephew in need.
I was an idea that night and every night after that as young Henry needed warmth and comfort while his parents were away. But from this idea things have begun to spread. Moopus likes to call it “Pinkelmeyer Fever,” and I must warn you it appears to be VERY contagious.

My silly ways along with Moopus’ constant adventures are warming the hearts of all who know us. More importantly than who I am is the very idea of who you need and want me to be. My warmth and love provide the comfort that is needed during different times in all of our lives. I certainly am not a replacement for anyone, but I like to think of myself as a wonderful fill-in for those moments when something or someone else is needed.

The beautiful thing about “Pinkelmeyer Fever,” is that anyone can catch it and that is the good news. It appears that once I touch your life I am hard to get rid of. Whether you are cuddling with my own plush doll along with Moopus, reading one of my children’s books, playing our music CD or watching one of our hilarious music videos I am right there with you and whatever you need I am always there. So think of me often as the lovely young boy did many years ago. Let the idea of me permeate, share this joy with others and spread “Pinkelmeyer Fever.” You will be happy that you did.

With love and care,

Mrs. Pinkelmeyer
